FLEXO INSIGHT: EFIA needs input from the flexo industry

14 September 2010

Lesley Hide, MD, EFIA

EFIA has started work on its 2011 Print Awards and would like some help from readers of Packaging Today.

We run many classes concentrating on print quality in substrate classes eg: flexible packaging, labels, corrugated post print and preprint, and we also run a number of special classes. These have changed over the years and have included such subjects as Best Print Previously Produced by Another Process i.e comparing flexo to gravure or litho; Best Print Compared to Proof; and Best Print Purchased Off the Shelf – proving that companies do not just produce outstanding print for competition.

We also run classes specifically for small companies and we like to encourage new entrants by specifically running a class for them. We also recognise suppliers and prepress companies through awards.

But we would like some new ideas for classes. What are you as an end user or specifier looking for and what will differentiate one printer from another?

We would like to use that information and turn it into a Print Awards class recognising the best companies in the sector. It does not have to be print related as such, but it should be relevant to the flexo industry and measurable: maybe something related to the environment or performance as a supplier. Call us on +44 (0)1458 241455 or email hiding@efia.uk.com with your ideas.

If you have any printers that you deal with that you feel should enter these Awards then please encourage them to do so. The event is the second largest flexo print competition in the world and it is recognised by brand owners as a significant coup to win an Award. Details of the competition will be available on our website. If you want to know what is going on in the flexo world then please sign up to receive our newsletter. The 2011 Awards are taking place on 30 March 2011 at The Royal Armouries in Leeds.
