Judging has taken place for the European Flexographic Industry Association Annual Print Awards, to be presented on 30 March in Leeds, UK.

Print experts from across the UK industry travelled to Sun Chemical’s South Normanton Impact Centre to judge the 16 print categories. A record number of entries led the judges to conclude that again the standard of flexographic print had increased in both quality and complexity.

"I’m thrilled that we’ve received a high number of entries from continental Europe – a key drive for us in 2011 is driving up our European networking and integration, and this is an excellent start,” said EFIA Chairman David Galton.

The panel felt that the development of new presses and increasing press efficiency and sophistication can mean that some of the basic print skills are forgotten and simple mistakes are made.

Dean Stamford of Amcor said: “Especially for a print competition, it can be very easy to concentrate on the clever stuff and forget the basics. With old machines, the printers’ skills are critical. With new machines, we believe we can press a button and it will all happen, but as an industry we’re in danger of losing key skills and knowledge, and EFIA has a role to ensure these key learnings are not lost.”

The competition winners can be seen at the EFIA Annual Print Exhibition and Seminar 2011 at The Armouries, Leeds on 30 March, from 11am-4pm, which is followed by a gala dinner.

Event tickets are available from debbie@avant-tout.com or via the EFIA website.
