Baker’s best

A look at what’s hot in the baked goods sector.

Crisp and light for the microwave

Sirane’s Crisp-it Light offers ‘a lighter way to crisp up microwave food’ such as paninis, baguettes, pasties and other dough and pastry based items.

Clear and susceptor films are laminated together without adhesives using proprietary Sirane technology. The bi-laminate moulds to the food, which crisps up when they come into contact.

Printable, it can dispense with the need for an outer paperboard sleeve and additional labelling. Frozen foods destined for the microwave do not need boxes.

High speed biscuit wrapping

PFM Packaging Machinery has set up a full turnkey product handling and packaging service for the bakery industry through its subsidiary SPS Italiana Pack Systems. A recent UK project sees items emerging from an enrober station and handled automatically at 370 pieces/min.

A high speed on-edge wrapping line features a new design of transfer system, which picks the slugs and accelerates them into the chain of the flow-wrapper, matching its speed to avoid collision with the slugs. Expected speeds are up to 180 packs/min and the flow-wrapper pitch is adjustable by around 10% to cater for variations in the product thickness.

An agreement with Italian cartoning and end-of-line machinery maker Cama resulted in a complete system for a European confectionery producer capable of accepting, spacing and flow-wrapping the product and then loading cartons of various types and product count at a rate of 120 cartons/min.

Stop press

KernPack will launch a high speed flow-wrapping innovation for crackers, biscuits, and count line applications, at the UK Baking Industry Exhibition, Birmingham NEC, 21-24 March. The FP110, designed using ‘a totally new philosophy’, offers speeds up to 1,000 pieces/min.
