Atwell labellers serve sushi products well
25 February 2010
When one of the UK’s leading sushi manufacturers required a new labelling system to meet its growing demands they approached Atwell Self-Adhesive Labellers to design and build a bespoke machine to meet their requirements.
The labelling machine’s function was to label all of the customer’s product currently being produced for Waitrose, Pret à Manger and own brand products; as well as Waitrose’s newly launched ‘Make your own Sushi’.
The system incorporates a top mounted AL120-S label head fitted with a Markem thermal transfer printer for date and batch coding, and an Atwell Series 3000 print & apply label head mounted underneath for base labelling.
The system includes a bespoke stainless steel conveyor, fully adjustable motorised side drives to hold the product whilst being labelled, plus a motorised whip belt allowing a full wrap label to be applied and finished so that the label ends tuck underneath one another.
The customer is said to be ‘delighted’ with the labelling system and the service provided by Atwell. This is not the first machine supplied to this company by Atwell: in the past 12 months it has assisted the customer in a number of ways to increase production efficiencies, the first by supplying label dispensers for use by the line operators and the second by supplying one of Atwell’s high speed friction feeders.
The high speed friction feeder allows the customer to accurately and quickly date code its cardboard product sleeves prior to issuing to production.
