It is with great pleasure and a sense of pride that I take up the reins as Editor of Packaging Today, a magazine with a great legacy of bringing up to date, pertinent information to its readers on all aspects of packaging technology and trends. I aim to continue in the tradition of excellence that has made Packaging Today a ‘must read’ for brand owners and packaging professionals looking to improve their brand awareness, technological excellence, and ultimately their bottom line.
With my 27 years’ experience on business to business magazines, I aim to build on its success, aided by another newcomer to the magazine (but certainly not to the industry), Joanne Hunter, who has joined as Deputy Editor. Joanne has a wealth of knowledge in the packaging field, and is a tenacious journalist and seasoned professional who is known for ‘getting the real story’.
We join at a challenging yet exciting time. True, the economy has taken a downturn, but the packaging industry is resilient, and products need to be protected whatever the economic climate. But it is not only the safety and security of the product that is important: now, more than ever, companies need to be competitive. With consumer goods, packaging is the first point of contact and has to be eyecatching, as well as informative and offer protection.
Metal packaging is one such example, which we feature in this issue. One of the first successful preservation methods for packaged foods ever invented, it has moved with the times, with easy opening, recyclability and sophisticated decoration methods.
Packaging Today also moves with the times, and will continue to bring you information that we hope will help you and your supply chain partners make the right packaging choices.
