Sweden's largest retailer is first to launch Amcor Compostable film

14 July 2008

Sweden’s largest retailer ICA is the first company to commercially launch Amcor NaturePlus Compostable films within the Swedish fresh produce sector on a range of salad, apple and carrot lines under the “I Love Eco” range.

ICA’s use of Amcor’s compostable films is a demonstration of the growing range of environmental films supplied by Amcor Flexibles under the Amcor NaturePlus umbrella and enhances Amcor’s position as a leading supplier in this growing market. Amcor Flexibles was awarded Bioplastics Converter of the year 2007 by European Plastics News.

ICA are using two products from Amcor's NaturePlus Range. The first is a blown co-extruded compostable film produced at Amcor's extrusion site in Ilkeston and the other is made from PLA (Poly Lactic Acid), a corn-starch based compostable film. Both products are suitable for a range of Fresh Produce applications and are printed and converted at Amcor Flexibles Ledbury. They are certified as compostable by DinCertco under the EN13432 standard.

“The products have been developed as part of Amcor’s drive to produce more sustainable and

environmentally-friendly materials. Sustainability is both our challenge and our responsibility and we want our packaging to help our customers around the globe to meet their own sustainability goals,” commented Peter Ettridge, Sustainable Packaging Development Manager Amcor Flexibles Food.

With annual net sales of €1.9 billion and manufacturing operations in 22 countries across Europe and the Americas, Amcor Flexibles, a division of Amcor, is a market leader and one of the world’s largest suppliers of flexible and tobacco packing. It supplies a wide range of products to the food, beverage, tobacco and healthcare markets.
