Using the principle illustrated above, Raque Food Systems has developed a heat seal machine that will run much narrower lidding material widths than the current “standard” because it is no longer necessary to provide a film skeleton to re-wind the excess material.
We calculate that lidding material usage can be reduced by up to 50% depending on tray size and shape, which has the additional benefit of less material required to be purchased and stored and reduced amounts of waste to landfill.
The principle is simple. Raque heat seal machines are able to run a reel of film only marginally wider than the tray. Excess film is removed between the trays to give the normal profile cut finish and the small amount of waste material is then vacuumed off the system and collected in convenient, ready to dispose of bags.
The operating principles of the Raque machines make them uniquely able to use this method of film saving, which is already tried and tested on USA and UK installations.
