GREATER CONSUMER CHOICE DRIVES DEMAND FOR MORE FLEXIBLE PACKAGING MACHINES

20 June 2008

Packaging machinery companies are gearing up for major changes in the equipment they will need to offer as the European Union prepares to put the accent firmly on the twin attributes of flexibility and adaptation, by foreshadowing a possible relaxation of the rules which have governed pack sizes.

Competition which lies behind the move by the European Union and providing more consumer choice which is being driven by smarter product marketing are currently the twin driving forces within the packaging industry. To meet the challenge packaging machinery manufacturers are expected to be able to meet an evermore diverse range of customer requirements. It is also likely in the future that packages will not only get both larger and smaller but also come in all sorts of odd shapes. Therefore only those with machines which can cope with anything and everything required of them will be in the top sellers.

One company with its eyes firmly fixed on the future is Sealed Air which offers the Shanklin® brand of packaging machines, a superior range with more than 50 models in the lexicon including shrink wrappers, shrink tunnels and automated feeding systems. All the machines are manufactured both in the USA, or Europe, to exacting European (including metric) standards.

Sealed Air is well set – and determined – to build on its heritage of quality and innovation. ‘‘We will once again be redefining the shrink packaging industry with a fresh approach and on-going new solutions,’’ says Technical Support Manager for Shrink Packaging Europe, Paul Collins.

The company is acknowledged as a leading player in global packaging markets and has a strong presence in most countries around the world including the European market.

As consumer markets continue to change and adapt at an ever fast pace, Sealed Air is expected to remain at the sharp end as a market leader in the supply of packaging machines and materials. ‘‘Our products reach almost 80 per cent of the world’s population and we don’t intent to relax our efforts to maintain and even increase that market share,’’ comments Mr Collins.
